The Lotus Vellum opens for Jim Ward Aug. 25th 2011

On thursday August 25th, I was privileged with the opportunity to open for Jim Ward. Jim is a founding member of the band At The Drive In, as well as Sparta. Ten years ago I never would have imagined I'd be opening for Jim…by myself…playing guitar? So strange. So cool. It was a true honor. ATDI's Relationship of Command had a heavy rotational period in my old disc-man. After ATDI's break up Sparta put out an EP Austere which spent just as much time in the player. Thanks to my brother I was introduced to ATDI and the bands to follow, It was a real treat to play this show on his birthday. The audience was amazing, totally silent and attentive in listening. You could hear a pin drop, thanks for listening and for the respect.

Also adding to the significance of this show was the venue. This was my first time performing at The Sunset. A place of fond music related memories for me. The first time I witnessed J. Tillman's careful lyricism and angelic voice was in this cozy den.  Another first, was the sonic lashing of Acid Mothers Temple. Both admirable artists in their own rights, check them out. A big thanks goes out to my friend Mike for getting me the show. I hope to play a show with his band The Monday Mornings sometime in the near future. Also Thanks to all my friends and family who came out to the show, your support means the world to me. I love you all.
